Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) in Fort Collins, CO has been granted the privilege of owning one of the last pieces of a World Trade Center I-beam.

The five-foot long, 3,500 pound piece of steel was part of one of the World Trade Center walls, and is one of the last pieces that is being given to a fire department. The I-beam will reside at one of PFA’s fire stations to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001 including the 343 FDNY firefighters.

Some of the team accompanying the beam will include four members who were part of the PFA firefighters who helped with recovery in the days and weeks after 9/11.

The beam begins its journey in New York on Wednesday, October 21 at JFK Airport. Representatives from the Fire Department of New York, including Rescue 4; the Terry Fund; and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey will be on hand to watch it begin its trek from New York to Colorado across I-80.
